DigitalOcean New Pricing Plans - Effective From July 1, 2022

DigitalOcean has just introduced its new pricing model for all droplet instances and some cloud services, effective and replacing the old pricing structure from July 1, 2022. There are two primary differences in this change, including Prices increasing across almost products and the new $4 droplet.

If you are using Droplets, Snapshots, Load Balancers, Floating IPs, and Custom Images will experience a change in prices from July 1, 2022. This affects all existing resources and the resources created newly.

Managed Databases

The below table is the new pricing for Managed PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Redis for plans with Basic Droplets and 1 & 2 additional nodes. The other Managed Database prices remain the same.

Load Balancers

The new monthly price for load balancers will be $12 per month per node.

Managed Kubernetes

Customers are billed for the underlying resources used by their Kubernetes worker nodes, including Droplets, Block Storage, and Load Balancers.
A Kubernetes cluster can be deployed for as little as $12 per month.
Only public outgoing transfers are considered for bandwidth billing. Transfer limits are calculated by pooling the transfer from all droplets on the account.
Overages above pooled transfer will be charged at $0.01/GB.

Snapshots

The new monthly price for Volume Snapshots is $0.06 per GiB per month, and Droplet Snapshots is $0.06 per GB per month.

Floating IPs

Under the new monthly pricing, Floating IPs will be free when assigned to a Droplet and cost $5.00 per month when reserved but not assigned to a Droplet.

Custom Images

Custom images are free to upload and charged at $0.06 GB per month to store.

The prices of the following products will not be affected and will remain the same:

App Platform: Three pricing tiers: Starter (free), Basic ($5/mo), and Professional ($12/mo).
Container Registry: Three plans: Free, Basic ($5), and Professional ($20).
Bandwidth Overages: Each Droplet includes free outbound data transfer, starting at 500 GiB/month and scaling up. The additional transfer is billed at $0.01 per GiB.
Spaces: The base rate of a Spaces subscription is $5.00/month, including 250 GiB of data storage and 1,024 GiB of outbound data transfer. Additional storage is $0.02/GiB, and outbound transfer is $0.01 per GiB.
Backups: Enabling backups for a Droplet adds 20% to the cost of the Droplet.
Volumes: Volumes cost $0.10 GiB per month and range from 1 GiB to 16 TiB (16,384 GiB). Charges accrue hourly for as long as the volume exists.

DigitalOcean $4 Droplet Plan

DigitalOcean New Pricing Plans – Effective From July 1, 2022

From July 1, 2022, this plan will be the smallest droplet plan on DigitalOcean, replacing the $5 plan in the past.

For $4 a month, you will get a droplet VPS plan with 1 vCPU, 512MB memory, 500GB bandwidth, and 10GB SSD. It would be good ideal for a Starter or Developer who needs a low-cost VPS for testing applications, websites, or running a small project. If this plan comes with an IPv4, it might be an excellent alternative to the $3.5 plan of Vultr in case you are more prefer to DigitalOcren.

DigitalOcean New Pricing FAQs

What forms of payment do you accept?

DigitalOcean accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, PayPal, Google Pay, and Apple Pay. For additional payment options, including wire transfer, purchase orders, and ACH.

Does new pricing model apply to existing resources?

Yes, It does. This price change will apply to all affected resources, including those already created and newly created resources.

How my monthly bill look like after this change?

It depends on which products you use. Here is an example:

Premium Droplet with 1GB memory + 1 vCPU + 1TB outbound transfer + 25GB of storage: $7/month
Premium Droplet with 1GB memory + 1 vCPU + 1TB outbound transfer + 25GB of storage + Managed MySQL database with 2GB memory, 1vCPU, 25GB disk size, 1 additional node: $67/month

What does the new $4 Droplet include?

The new $4/mo droplet plan comes with 1 vCPU, 512MB RAM, 500GB bandwidth, and 10GB SSD Disk. It will be available on July 1 2022.

Can I upgrade/downgrade my droplet with this new pricing structure?

Absolutely! You can easily upgrade from the $4 plan to any higher droplet plan any time you want in the account dashboard. You can also downgrade your plan to any lower plan without extra fees.

Does the new DigitalOcean pricing model allow a refund?

Since DigitalOcean offers free credits for you to try their services before placing an order, so No, DigitalOcean does not offer refunds.

Can the $100 free credit be used on new products above?

Sure! You can use DigitalOcean Coupon to get up to $100 free credits and use it on all new droplets, products, and services at DigitalOcean without problems.

How can I try DigitalOcean New Droplet if I don't have a credit card?

Yes, you can. Please refer to this guide if you don’t have a valid payment method (Credit cards, Paypal, etc.) but still want to try a new droplet on DigitalOcean.

What are the billing cycles of this change?

DigtalOcean billing cycles are monthly and hourly. In most cases, they will charge your account’s primary payment method for the previous month’s usage on the first day of each month.

If I powered off my new Droplet, do I still be charged?

Because your disk space, CPU, RAM, and IP address are all reserved, even while powered off, so you are still billed when you power off your new Droplet.

If you don’t want to be charged, please destroy your Droplet.
